Responsible Drinking Program

(2020, 2021, 2022 & 2023)

Regulatory Compliance & Mystery Shopping Project

In 2021, the Mploy team successfully executed a comprehensive audit of COVID-19 and liquor regulation compliance across 17,184 Shebeens and taverns within a 30-day timeframe, spanning five provinces: KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Cape, Western Cape, Limpopo, and Mpumalanga. This high-impact project was conducted twice in 2021and subsequently repeated in 2022 and 2023.

Responsible drinking matters because it keeps people safe and communities healthier.

Following the audit, establishments found to be compliant were selected for mystery shopping. Mploy recruited and trained mystery shoppers who could convincingly appear underage or intoxicated, in order to assess adherence to responsible service regulations under realistic conditions.

Expanded Scope – 2023 Implementation

In 2023, alongside our ongoing compliance audits, the Mploy team facilitated the installation of trading hours and bathroom signage in over 12,000 Shebeens and taverns, enhancing regulatory visibility and customer experience across multiple provinces.
